Kyera Byas, 17, was killed, 18-year-old passenger injured in a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 213 in Madison County, North Carolina

North Carolina Highway Patrol’s preliminary investigation shows a passenger vehicle was attempting to make a left turn onto the highway from a private drive and failed to yield to a utility truck traveling toward Mars Hill. The utility truck hit the passenger car on the driver’s side door, then traveled left of the center, side swiping a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.
