Several students were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries early Wednesday after a wreck involving a school bus near McGee's Crossroads Elementary School in Johnston County, State Highway Patrol officials said.
Several students were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries early Wednesday after a wreck involving a school bus near McGee's Crossroads Elementary School in Johnston County, State Highway Patrol officials said. Forty-eight students were on the bus at the time of the wreck, which happened at about 8:15 a.m. near the intersection of Greenleaf Road and N.C. Highway 50. According to investigators, a red Mitsubishi Eclipse leaving McGee's Crossroads failed to yield and was hit by a truck pulling a trailer. Both vehicles ran into the school bus, which was stopped on N.C. 50 waiting to turn into the school. The drivers of the Eclispe, the truck and the bus were all taken to WakeMed, Highway Patrol Sgt. Derek Mobley said. The severity of their injuries was not released. At least eight students were taken to WakeMed with non-life-threatening injuries, investigators said. Other students were treated at the scene. Authorities closed N.C. 50 just south of N.C. Highway 210 for about two hours following the wreck.
