The wreck happened on McCormick Bridge Road. Two people died and another was injured late Friday night in a single-vehicle wreck in Fayetteville, officials said. Troopers said the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. Troopers said speed was the main factor in the accident that killed the driver, a 27-year-old male, and a 21-year-old female passenger. A third 21-year-old man was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol tells local media outlets the accident happened shortly before midnight Friday when the driver lost control of his vehicle and it smashed into a tree. Authorities say the driver, 27-year-old Michael Brett Tidwell of Spring Lake, was killed as was 22-year-old Jamie Nicole Easingwood, also of Spring Lake. A second passenger was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.
