A Rocky Mount High School student was killed Sunday in a crash on U.S. Highway 64, police said.

“They were almost home when the accident happened,” Terrell said as tears formed in his eyes. “You bond with these kids. They become your children and she was like my child.”

Hinton was a member of the varsity volleyball, basketball, and track and field teams. "Our hearts go out to the family," said Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Anthony Jackson.
Rocky Mount teen charged in fatal wreck
The Rocky Mount Telegram reported that 18-year-old Jaequez Jones has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to have a driver's license.
Tiara Lashay Hinton was riding on Highway 64 in a car with three other teens when they collided with another vehicle. Hinton is confirmed dead, but the conditions of the other people involved are not currently known. The crash is still under investigation and more information will be posted once it is known.
