Investigators say that Michael Allen Rood, 18, of Stewart, was driving a 1996 Saturn two-door vehicle north on S.R. 329 when he drove off the right side of the road, struck an embankment. The vehicle went airborne and struck a tree, coming to rest on its top.
An 18-year-old Athens County man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Athens County on Monday.
According the Athens post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on state Route 329, north of the Village of Stewart.
Investigators say that Michael Allen Rood, 18, of Stewart, was driving a 1996 Saturn two-door vehicle north on S.R. 329 when he drove off the right side of the road, struck an embankment. The vehicle went airborne and struck a tree, coming to rest on its top.
Rood was pronounced dead at the scene by the Athens County Coroner’s Office.
Rood was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to troopers. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
