Union Township police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal hit-skip accident.
Investigators said the accident happened on Round Bottom Road, near Beechwood Road, about 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Police said Todd Shaw, 51, is in custody in the Clermont County Jail, charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and leaving the scene.
Investigators said they were able to determine alcohol was a factor in the fatal accident.
"In my 18 years of law enforcement, I have not seen an accident of this nature on this stretch of road. It's always been safe for bicyclists," Sgt. Jeff Brown said.
Fredrick Carey, 51, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said he was riding a bike on the road when he was hit.
Police said they were looking for the driver of a bright yellow van, which was heading westbound after the accident.
Union Township investigators located the suspect's vehicle in the 4500 block of Dameron Lane shortly after midnight.
In a press release The Cincinnati Cycle Club and the Queen City Bike Club said they are saddened by the tragic incident that occurred Friday on Round Bottom Road that led to the death of a cyclist.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of those impacted by this incident and with the Cincinnati cycling community," the statement said.
Shaw will have a bond hearing Monday morning in Clermont County Municipal Court.
According to court records, Shaw has been convicted of driving under the influence in 1996, 2002 and 2007.
