Cameron Friend, 17, killed and another teen injured after car crashes into home on Kansas Avenue in Lorain, Ohio; Paul Pelton facing charges for filming accident without rendering aid

'€œWhile others were rendering aid to these boys, a male took the opportunity to video this horrible scene with his cell phone. Police said he posted the video on Facebook and attempted to sell it to at least two news stations. However, police said Paul Pelton, of Lorain, didn'€™t attempt to aid the boys. The Lorain Police Department called it an attempt to make a profit from '€œa young man'€™s dying moments.'€  

Police reported on Wednesday Pelton visited the driver's home while the boy was alone. Pelton told the boy if he would tell Lorain police Peltion had permission to enter the car that Pelton would testify that the Lorain Police Department caused additional injuries to Friend. 

LORAIN, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man accused of trespassing into a crashed car to record cellphone video of the grisly scene has pleaded not guilty to bribery and witness intimidation charges. His car went airborne after crossing railroad tracks. Lorain police say Paul Pelton recently went to the home of the 17-year-old driver and tried to bribe him. They say Pelton offered to claim police injured a teenage passenger who died after the July crash if the driver would say Pelton had permission to enter the car and record the scene. He previously pleaded not guilty to a vehicle trespass charge.

The crash took place around 12:45 a.m. on July, 13 when investigators said Goodin was "joyriding" over the Kansas Avenue railroad tracks. The vehicle crossed the railroad tracks, hit a pole, went through several yards and finally came to a stop, crashing into a tree and catching fire.

LORAIN, Ohio (AP) — A northeast Ohio man who recorded grisly cellphone video of a car crash that killed one teenager and critically injured another has pleaded guilty to vehicle trespass and disorderly conduct. The charges stem from Paul Pelton having opened a car door of the wrecked vehicle to continue recording while others tried to help the two teens. Police said Pelton can be heard on the video calling the teens “idiots.” The 41-one-year-old’s plea deal on Tuesday in Lorain includes the dismissal of felony bribery and witness intimidation charges. Pelton was accused of trying to persuade the teenage driver to tell police he had permission to open the car door after the single-car accident in July. One of Pelton’s attorneys declined to comment on Wednesday.

The judge who sentenced 41-year-old Paul Pelton on Wednesday for vehicle trespass and disorderly conduct says he wishes he could've gone beyond the maximum penalty. Prosecutors say Pelton opened a door of the wrecked vehicle to continue recording while others tried to help the two teens. Police said Pelton can be heard on the video calling the teens "idiots." Pelton's attorneys said in court that he only opened the door because another bystander asked what was in the backseat. One defense attorney says Pelton realizes what he did was insensitive but added that it doesn't make him a criminal.
