Deborah Pearl, 53, shot and killed following car collision with alleged shooter Matthew Ryan Desha, 29, at Solon Road and Richmond Road in Solon, Ohio

A woman, who had apparently been shot several times, was found in the roadway, police said. She was immediately taken to the hospital, but was pronounced dead around 8:18 a.m.

Solon police said the man, identified as a 29-year-old from North Ridgeville, was found with a 5.56 mm rifle.

Solon police said the woman's identity will be released once her family is notified. The 29-year-old man's identity was withheld by police because he has not been formally charged.

The witness made a frantic 911 call after seeing the crash and hearing the gunfire. She told police that the man was pacing up and down the road with the rifle still in his hands.

The caller later said she saw a man standing over the shooter on the road. It's unknown if that person was a police officer or resident.

Police said the gun was a .53-millimeter rifle. Felton said they are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting. He said investigators so far believe the two never met before. He said they are investigating road-rage as one possible factor in the crash. 

Deborah Pearl, 53, died about an hour after the shooting at University Hospitals Bedford Medical Center, according to police and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner.

"Word's can't explain what we're going through," said Pearl's son, Derryo Pearl. "This is the roughest patch a human being can go through. I've gone through tough times before, but it wasn't like this."

Matthew Ryan Desha, 29, of North Ridgeville, is charged with murder in the death of Deborah Pearl, police said. He will appear Monday in Bedford Municipal Court.
