Troopers say a driver running a stop sign is to blame for a crash on state Route 188 Wednesday night.

According to troopers from the Lancaster post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Mary S. Mathias, 61, of Lancaster, was traveling southbound on state Route 188 in a 2002 Oldsmobile Alero. At the same time, Dallas A. Schilling, 29, of Baltimore was traveling westbound on Highpoint Road in a 2002 Hyundai Accent.

Schilling failed to yield to a stop sign on Highpoint Road at S.R. 188 and struck the side of Mathias' vehicle.

Mathias was transported to Fairfield Medical Center to be treated.

Her passenger, Carl Amspaugh, 69, was transported by MedFlight to Grant Medical Center.

Mathias and Amspaugh were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to troopers.

Schilling was ejected from her vehicle. She was air-lifted to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center by Air Evac. She was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to troopers.

S.R. 188 was closed while the crash debris was cleaned up.

Alcohol is suspected and considered to be a factor in the crash, according to troopers.
