Suspect Arrested In Fatal Vian Hit And Run

A Cherokee County man was arrested on suspicion of killing a Vian woman in an apparent hit and run that happened Tuesday evening. 

Linda Finney-Drew, 55, was hit and killed while walking on East Sanders Street near Martin Luther King Boulevard in Vian about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday with her friend, Candy Shade. Elton Darrell Vanzant, 74, was driving west when his vehicle left the roadway and re-entered, hitting Finney-Drew and clipping Shade, before leaving the scene. Finney-Drew was pronounced dead at the scene. Shade was taken to Sequoyah Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released. Vanzant was caught and arrested on suspicion of negligent homicide, leaving the scene of a fatality accident and leaving the scene of an injury accident. Additional charges could be faced depending on the results of his toxicology test. Vanzant was booked at the Sequoyah County Detention Center with no bond.
