El Reno teenager dies in traffic accident.
An El Reno teenager died Sunday morning, and three others were critically injured after an early morning traffic wreck, the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Jesse Gorbet, 16, died after the wreck about 12:15 a.m. at Britton and Manning roads. Gorbet was driving a pickup and there were five teenage passengers, all of whom were injured.
Officials at First Christian Church of El Reno, where a prayer service was held Sunday evening for those involved in the wreck, identified the injured: Karson Baker, Taylor Maine and Connor Ryan were taken to OU Medical Center in critical condition, and Josh Castrop and Abby Schwarz were treated and released at a nearby hospital.
Canadian County Undersheriff Chris West said Gorbet’s pickup was headed south on Manning Road when it collided with another pickup traveling west on Britton Road.
West said the driver of the second pickup was treated and released at a local hospital.
Investigators think the accident happened because both vehicles were traveling too fast for weather conditions, West said.
People at El Reno High School were in mourning.
“We had an accident that involved six of our students; one is a fatality,” El Reno High School principal Pat Liticker said. “Our prayers are going out to the families and to the students who are recovering from their injuries.”
Counseling will be available for students and teachers when classes resume, Liticker said.
