The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a high school student died when her vehicle slid into a Claremore Sequoyah school bus northeast of Claremore Wednesday morning. The OHP identified the teen as Whitney Westmoreland, 18, of Claremore

"The accident has hit our school and community right in the heart," the school's superintendent, Terry M. Saul, said in a statement. "We are focusing on our people. We are comforting and counseling with students and employees that are in need.

Officials said only two students on the bus was injured. FOX23 later learned a mother took a student in after complaints of neck pain.
Whitney Westmoreland was driving on East/West 450 Road when her vehicle began to run off the pavement and she overcorrected, causing her vehicle to slide into the path of a school bus. She sustained fatal injuries. She was wearing a seat belt and the airbags of her vehicle deployed. Two of the students on the bus suffered minor head injuries, but no one else was injured.
