Nowata Woman Killed, Husband Critical After Head-On Crash

The cause of the collision is listed as driving left of center. Troopers say John Wendt's condition at the time of the crash is unknown.
An elderly woman is was killed and her husband injured and in critical condition after a head-on crash on Highway 60 west of Nowata. Mary Wendt, 77, was a passenger in a truck driven by her husband John Wendt, 77, who crossed the center line for an unknown reason just before 2 p.m. Sunday, November 30, 2014, and hit another pickup head on. John Wendt was extricated from the crash and transported by medical helicopter to Tulsa where he is listed in critical condition with internal and other injuries. A teen from Bartlesville was driving the other vehicle; he was admitted to a Tulsa hospital where he is reported to be stable with internal injuries. His 14-year-old female passenger was also taken to the hospital with internal injuries and is in stable condition. Mary Wendt was not wearing a safety belt.
