Teenage boy from Idaho killed in I-84 crash near state border wasn't wearing a seatbelt, police say.
A teen from Idaho was killed after getting ejected from a pickup truck in a two-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 84 near Ontario early Sunday morning, police said.
Just before 2 a.m., the 17-year-old boy was passing a car on the right side in eastbound lanes of the interstate just west of the Idaho border, according to the Oregon State Police.
Somehow the truck’s right side collided with the other car, sending the truck careening out of control into westbound lanes. The truck rolled several times and ejected the driver before landing in an grassy embankment on the side of the road, Hastings said.
The driver, later identified as Ryan Ronald Rule, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 17-year-old female passenger, identified as Robyn C. King, was not ejected and was taken to the hospital where she was expected to survive.
Neither person in the truck was wearing a seat belt.
The other car spun several times and none of the three people inside was injured.
Police said the speed the pickup truck was driving was a factor in the crash.
