A Gold Beach man died Saturday morning in a traffic crash near Scottsburg.
Joshua Carter, 22, was driving westbound on Highway 38 when his Tacoma truck crossed the center line and hit a Ford truck headed eastbound just after 6 a.m., according to the Oregon State Police.
Carter was pronounced dead at the scene. Two people in the Ford truck were injured in the crash. They have not been identified.
The truck, which came to a rest on an embankment off the highway, spilled helicopter fuel from a container and four drums of herbicide fell out about 100 feet from the Umpqua River, Hastings said.
The vehicle was registered to Applebee Aviation of Banks, Ore.
HazMat teams responded to the spill. Officials said there doesn’t appear to be danger to fish or wildlife from the spilled materials.
