Elmira bicyclist killed after turning in front of a truck is identified

James Thomas Moody, 57, of Elmira was eastbound on the shoulder of Warthen Road when he crossed the traffic lane to pull into a driveway, troopers said. He was hit by an eastbound pickup truck hauling a horse trailer.

A bike rider hit by a pickup truck when he turned in front of the vehicle died Wednesday, Oregon State Police reported.

James Thomas Moody, 57, of Elmira was eastbound on the shoulder of Warthen Road when he crossed the traffic lane to pull into a driveway, troopers said. He was hit by an eastbound pickup truck hauling a horse trailer.

Troopers said Sandra L. Faulhaber, 63, of Elmira, told troopers she attempted to avoid the bike, but hit the rider from behind.

Moody, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend where he later died.

Troopers and a collision reconstructionist from the Springfield Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
