Police say a 53-year-old Brookings man crashed his car early Thursday and then ran to a nearby trailer park where he climbed a power pole. He was then critically injured when he made contact with live electrical lines and fell to the ground.

A spokesman for the Oregon State Police, said James F. Anderson was behind the wheel of a Nissan Sentra on U.S. 101 near Floral Hill Drive in unincorporated Harbor when he lost control of the car and crashed off the highway at 1:24 a.m.

Anderson ran from the crash scene into a nearby trailer park, climbed a power pole and then was severely shocked and fell to the ground, Hastings said.

He was restrained by a Curry County deputy and medical first responders before being flown by air ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland where he was reported to be in critical condition Thursday afternoon.

Hastings said a preliminary investigation indicates that Anderson may have been under the influence of methamphetamine. Criminal charges are pending.
