Twenty-one-year old Francisco Castro Gusman, the driver of the Honda,was taken by ambulance to Oregon Health & Science University. Both Zanora Avendano and Castro Gusman, from Parkdale, were seriously injured. State troopers from the Dalles are continuing to investigate the crash. Hood River police and local fire also assisted at the scene.

At about 7:04 a.m. on Sept. 13, a 1990 Nissan truck driven by Servando Zanora Avendano hit a 1994 Honda Civic driven by twenty-one-year old Francisco Castro Gusman head-on. Zanora Avendano, 26, was heading southbound in the northbound lane near milepost 95. Zanora Avendano, of Hood River, was airlifted to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. Castro Gusman was taken by ambulance to Oregon Health & Science University. Both were seriously injured. Police believe Zanora Avendano may have been under the influence.
