A log truck driver hauling a full rig died when his vehicle rolled off the side of a remote road and down an embankment near Grande Ronde on Tuesday, officials said.
Gary Kline, an Independence resident, was driving along Logging Road #203 in the Fire Hall Road area around 5 a.m. when the crash occurred, said the Polk County Sheriff's office.
Authorities believe that heavy fog in the area contributed to the accident, said a sheriff's spokesman.
Kline, 39, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the truck as it rolled down the hillside. He died at the scene.
Due to the terrain and remote location of the crash, it took rescuers nearly six hours to recover Kline's body from the truck, officials said.
