Elk-caused accident in Baker County killed Idaho woman, injures others

Troopers who investigated the crash said that it happened when a 2010 Ford F350 pickup truck being driven eastbound on the freeway by Todd B. Pratt, 30, of Blackfoot, struck an elk, causing the driver to lose control.

A woman who died in a wildlife-caused traffic accident west of Baker City on Interstate 84 Saturday evening has been identified as a 60-year-old from Blackfoot, Idaho.

Tanda Kay Pratt died after being taken to St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Baker City after the crash. Oregon State Police on Monday afternoon released her name and that of three others involved in the crash.

All were riding in the same vehicle when it rolled about 10:38 p.m. Saturday. The incident took place near milepost 294 in Baker County.

Troopers who investigated the crash said that it happened when a 2010 Ford F350 pickup truck being driven eastbound on the freeway by Todd B. Pratt, 30, of Blackfoot, struck an elk, causing the driver to lose control. The truck then went off the pavement and into the median. The truck and a 2001 Xtreme camper trailer it was pulling rolled over and came to rest in the median.

All four people in the truck were seriously injured. Todd Pratt and rear passenger Joe L. Pratt, 61, both also of Blackfoot, were taken by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Austin B. Parker, 23, of Pocatello, Idaho, was taken to the Baker City hospital. Parker had been riding in the front seat with Todd Pratt, while Joe Pratt and Tanda Pratt were in the back seat.

As of Monday afternoon, Joe Pratt was in critical condition, Todd Pratt was in serious. Parker had been treated and released by Monday afternoon.

Troopers from the La Grande Area Command office and Baker City troopers are investigating. The accident temporarily closed the westbound lanes of the freeway.
