Ruth A. Delgado, 23, killed and Gabriela Rayon, 21, injured in crash on Highway 101 near Cannon Beach on July 19 or July 20.

One woman was killed in a crash near Cannon Beach and another was rescued after a hitchhiker came across the wreckage.

Police said the car went off of Highway 101 and traveled about 40 feet down an embankment, where it remained for at least 12 hours before the hitchhiker called emergency responders Sunday evening.

The right side of the vehicle had crashed into a tree and the passenger, 23-year-old Ruth A. Delgado of Los Angeles, was killed, according to Oregon State Police.

The driver, 21-year-old Gabriela Rayon of Vancouver, was taken to a Portland hospital, where she was listed in fair condition Monday afternoon.

Both occupants were wearing seat belts. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
