Deana May Igoe, 86, killed, Sara Stamey, 56, Winston Saunders, 57, seriously injured, transported to hospital, after a car and SUV collide on Highway 20 near Santiam Pass.

An elderly driver from Colorado was killed and two Hillsboro residents in an SUV were injured in a two-vehicle crash that blocked U.S. Highway 20 near Santiam Pass, west of Sisters for over an hour Monday morning, Oregon State Police reported.

Troopers late Monday identified the woman killed in the crash as 86-year-old Deana May Igoe of Grand Junction, Colorado.

Preliminary information indicated that around 9:15 a.m., a 2008 Ford Fusion driven by Igoe was heading east on Highway 20 near milepost 82 when she lost control on the ice, troopers said.

Igoe's car crossed into the westbound lanes, where it was struck in the passenger side by a westbound 2013 Volvo sport utility vehicle driven by Winston Saunders, 57.

Igoe was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said, adding that all occupants in both vehicles were wearing seat belts and both vehicles' airbags deployed.

Saunders and passenger Sara Stamey, 56, were taken by ambulance to St. Charles Bend with what troopers said were non-life-threatening injuries. Stamey was in serious condition at the hospital Monday afternoon, while Saunders had been treated and released, a spokeswoman said.

OSP troopers from the Bend Area Command office were continuing the investigation. They were assisted at the scene by the Black Butte Ranch Rural Fire District, Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District and ODOT.

Traffic over the pass was at a standstill for over an hour, with drivers urged to use alternate routes. One lane reopened by about 10:30 a.m., with flaggers directing traffic, and the highway was fully open again by around 1 p.m..
