The Central Oregon Emergency Information Network says the pilot and a passenger were killed in the crash about 2 p.m. Saturday about a mile south of Madras Municipal Airport. Authorities did not identify the victims.

Mark James Rich, a 59-year-old Menlo Park, California man, was killed when his 2002 fixed-wing, single engine aircraft crashed into Willow Creek Canyon, Saturday afternoon.

Rich, who was from Menlo Park, California, initially planned to fly with a family member, but their plans changed, Jefferson County Sheriff Jim Adkins said Sunday. Officials initially reported two people died in the crash.
