Woman loses foot after speed racing crash in Linn County

A Seattle woman had her right foot severed in a speed racing crash that ended when a car crashed into a tree with enough force to eject the engine.

Mill City crash sends two to hospital

Sheriff Bruce Riley reported that at about 2:31 a.m. Friday Nickolas Lloyd Johnston, 23, of Seattle, was driving a 2009 Ford Fusion eastbound in the 48000 block of Kingwood Ave. Johnston was following a friend, Adam Luckey, and traveling at about 55 miles per hour. Johnston accelerated to pass Luckey's vehicle before losing control, leaving the roadway and striking a tree.
At about 2:30 a.m. Nickolas L. Johnston was racing a friend and accelerated to pass him when he lost control and struck a tree with enough force to eject the car's engine. Johnston suffered a broken leg, broken ribs, and possibly a punctured lung. Valerie Zimich was a passenger in Johnston's vehicle, and she suffered multiple broken bones and a severed right foot. Both peopel had to be extricated from the vehicle. Johnston was taken to Santiam Memorial Hospital, and Zimich was taken to Salem Hospital. Alcohol was a factor in the crash.
