Oregon woman killed in car crash in Umatilla County

A 53-year-old woman was killed Friday night when her car crashed on a highway in Umatilla County, the Oregon State Police said. Sharon Kay Monk of Stanfield, Ore., was northbound on Highway 11 in a 2001 Volkswagen Bug near Adams, Ore., state police said.

On Saturday at about 10:48 p.m., a 2001 Volkswagen Bug driven by Sharon Monk, 53, of Stanfield, Ore., was northbound on Highway 11 near milepost 11 when her car traveled off the left side of the highway, down a steep embankment and rolled before coming to rest in a field on its top.

Sharon Kay Monk of Stanfield, Ore., was northbound on Highway 11 in a 2001 Volkswagen Bug near Adams, Ore., state police said.

About 10:48 p.m., the car traveled off the lefthand side of the road, down an embankment and rolled before coming to rest on its top in a field.

Monk was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Walla Walla but died after arriving there.

Oregon State Police are still investigating the crash.
