2 Fatalities identified in I-81 crash.
Two people were killed in a crash on Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 81 near Carlisle, Cumberland County.
The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. near mile marker 47. Police say 26-year-old Shane Myers of Carlisle was driving an SUV southbound on I-81 and crossed over into the median and crashed into a tractor trailer in the northbound lane. The crash killed Myers and the 42-year-old tractor trailer driver, Kevin Carr of Williamstown, Nj.
Police say both drivers died of traumatic injuries and were pronounced dead on the scene.
A passenger in the truck was taken to Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
"I mean, it was a pretty horrific crash. The vehicle had to be traveling at a pretty good amount of speed," said Pennsylvania State Trooper Robert Hicks.
Subsequently, another tractor trailer crashed while trying to avoid the accident. That driver is reported to be doing OK.
As a result of the crash, the northbound lanes of I-81 near mile marker 47 were closed for hours on Wednesday.
