Driver charged in crash that killed hunting pals

Police say the friends were traveling to a hunting cabin on the day before firearms season opened for white-tailed deer. Howey was arraigned Wednesday and sent to Pike County Prison. All were from Northampton County. Police say 50-year-old Thomas Howey Jr., of Palmer Township, lost control of his Ford F-150 on a curve in Pike County on Nov. 29 and struck a tree. The dead men are 46-year-old Barry Foose, of Easton; 58-year-old Timothy Gerhard, of Plainfield Township; and 38-year-old Eric Dunbar, of Roseto.

3 hunters from Lehigh Valley dead in Pike County crash

The Pike County coroner pronounced all three dead at the scene, state police said. They were passengers in a 2014 Ford F-150 truck driven by Thomas James Howey Jr., 49, of Palmer Township. Howey survived but suffered serious injuries and was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township, according to state police. Authorities said Howey veered off the road at a curve and struck a tree. The four were friends staying together at Howey's nearby cabin on a hunting trip, according to family members of Foose and Gerhard. Monday was the first day of Pennsylvania's 2015 rifle hunting season for deer.
