Pedestrian struck, killed by Amtrak train ID'd as 17-year-old girl, report says

School officials described Moscatel as a “rising star” in the commercial and advertising arts program at the school for the last three years.
A pedestrian who was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Monday has been identified as a 17-year-old Bristol Township girl. Jessica Moscatel, a Bucks County Technical High School senior, died immediately after being hit by a six-car Acela train on tracks just north of the Croydon train station, according to the Bucks County Courier Times. Bucks County Coroner Joseph Campbell ruled her death a suicide, the report said. Amtrak officials said the train originated in Harrisburg, Pa., and was headed to New York City as part of the Keystone service. The train was between its Philadelphia and Trenton stops. There were about 100 passengers on board at the time of the 1:30 p.m. accident. Police told the Courier Times that the train operator knew he hit something and the train traveled another mile before coming to a stop across from Bristol Pike Lanes on Route 13. The train was going 120 mph, the coroner told the newspaper. School officials described Moscatel as a “rising star” in the commercial and advertising arts program at the school for the last three years. “It was with deep regret that we learned of the tragic death" of Jessica Moscatel, said Kevin Gentilcore, the school’s supervisor of pupil personal services. “Students and staff consider Bucks County Technical High School as a second family and when we lose a member of our family, we all suffer, we all feel loss. We have reached out to the Moscatel family to express our condolences and support, and we are keeping them in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.”
