A woman was left with a severed leg after being intentionally struck by a car in Philadelphia Friday afternoon, police said.

Immediately after the crash, the victim's mother rushed to the hospital leaving something cooking on the stove. The house then caught fire, said the family.

The suspect, who allegedly sped away from the scene, surrendered about 11 a.m. Saturday, police said. Her identity was not immediately released, pending formal charges.

Around 2 p.m., some sort of altercation occured between a 24-year-old woman and another person. Soon thereafter, the woman was intentionally struck by an SUV that fled the scene. She was rushed to Albert Einstein medical center for treatment, where she had to undergo surgery on her leg. Police are still searching for the driver.
