According to officials, a state police vehicle was traveling westbound on Route 228 when another vehicle was driven into the westbound lane, hitting the police vehicle head-on.

Mr. Hufnagel, who was driving a pickup truck, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to state police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
