Elaine R. Ludwig, Chester D. Ludwig killed when car crosses over road and hits tree on Mount Pleasant Road in Unity Township

A husband and wife were killed in a car crash Monday afternoon in Unity Township, officials said. Elaine R. Ludwig, 68, and Chester D. Ludwig, 74, died from multiple blunt-force injuries after their pickup truck hit a tree on Mount Pleasant Road just before 2 p.m., according to the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office. Chester Ludwig was driving the truck south when it crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic, and drove off the east shoulder of the road and hit the tree, officials said. Both victims were taken to Excela Westmoreland Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Toxicology results will not be available for several weeks.
