The crash occurred at the intersection of Highway 319 and Willis Street at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. Troopers say Erika Lopez, the driver of the vehicle in which Gonzalez was riding, was westbound on Willis Street and attempted to cross Highway 319 when her vehicle was hit in the passenger side by an SUV.

Gonzalez was taken to the hospital, where he died about four hours later. Lopez and the driver of the SUV were taken to the hospital, but their conditions are unknown. Lopez was charged with failure to yield to the right-of-way.
