Mark Daniel Phillips, 37, and Christopher Shawn Lanier, 28, killed, and Ashley Thomas Wannamaker injured in boating accident on Lake Murray in Lexington County, South Carolina

Several people were injured and one person is missing following the just before midnight Friday. The incident occurred near Dreher Island and the Frayed Knot Bar. 

The names of the victims have not been released at this time and the Lexington County Coroner's office is performing the autopsy.      

Authorities have released the identities of two men who died as the result of a late night boat crash on Lake Murray on Friday.

According to SCDNR Director of Media and Outreach Robert McCullough, the driver of the larger boat that hit the two victims in a smaller boat has been identified as Bruce Dyer.   

The driver of the second boat that crashed into a smaller boat that led to the deaths of two others passed his field sobriety test following the crash, according to Captain Robert McCullough with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.      

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources released the incident report on the fatal boat crash on Lake Murray, stating that Bruce Dyer, the driver of the larger boat, said he "saw a green light before the collision" with a smaller boat that led to the deaths of two others.      

One caller tells a dispatcher they heard a collision and cries for help from across the cove. But close to midnight on the water, they say it’s tough to see anything.     

The State reports that attorney Lisa McPherson filed the civil suit this week on behalf of Ashley Thomas Wannamaker against David Bruce Dyer.   

Investigators say the bass boat, operated by Phillips, had the responsibility to give way to the center console boat. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the driver of the console boat, Bruce Dyer, made a sharp turn throwing his wife and another passenger overboard.   

Officials have determined that the bass boat was in violation of Coast Guard navigation rules and failed to yield the right of way to Bruce Dyer's boat.   

The State newspaper reports the family of Shawn Lanier filed a lawsuit last week against David Bruce Dyer accusing him of negligence and carelessness in the April 21 Lake Murray wreck.
