5 killed when vehicles collide in Texas Panhandle

Ray says everyone in the van lived at the same address in Hobbs, New Mexico.

Five people, including four members of a New Mexico family, have died in a late-night crash on a rural road in the Texas Panhandle. 30-year-old Ryan Painter of Corpus Christi was killed when his pickup crossed the center line just before midnight Saturday north of Vega and struck an oncoming Chevy van. The van was transporting 43-year-old Louis David Torres Sr.; his wife, 43-year-old Dalila Torres; a 20-year-old woman; 14-year-old boy; and 10-year-old girl. Only the boy survived the horrific collision. He was listed in critical condition Monday at a Lubbock hospital. The two vehicles caught fire after colliding. Check back for more information on this crash as it becomes available.

What every family needs to know about Texas wrongful death claims

When someone is killed in a car, truck, bicycle, pedestrian, or other kind of accident, family members left behind must cope with the tragedy as best they can. Many important decisions need to be made, and a wrongful death claim needs to be filed.

In Texas, a claim can be filed only by specific family members, but there are strict requirements and deadlines that must be met. It is critical to talk with a wrongful death attorney in Texas to get the information and advice needed to move forward.
