The accident happened at 12:50 am near Barker Cypress.

The Cy-Fair fire department says the 18-wheeler hauling what appears to be apples crashed into the concrete wall. The truck burst into flames and the rig driver died at the scene. A passenger was ejected and transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.

There's no word on what caused the crash and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

At one point, Highway 290 was shutdown in both directions. The inbound feeder road has since reopened and so have several outbound lanes.

At least 250 gallons of diesel spilled on the roadway and Harris County HazMat and Harris County pollution were called to the scene.

Drivers are being exited off of 290 at Barker Cypress and are getting back on at Telge. To get around the mess, you could take Spring Cypress to Skinner to Jarvis, then over to Telge. Or you could take Barker Cypress north or south around the accident.

TXDOT official says the freeway will likely remain closed until noon today.
