One male pedestrian killed, after he suddenly ran onto the Highway 288 roadway, and was struck by a Houston Police Department pickup driven by Officer C. James, who was not injured.

A man was killed Saturday night when a Houston police officer hit him with an department-issued pickup on Highway 288.

A man was killed Saturday night when a Houston police officer hit him with an department-issued pickup on Highway 288.

Investigators said the officer was heading home around 10:40 p.m. Saturday, when a man darted in front of him on the stretch of freeway near Holcombe Boulevard.

The officer hit the brakes, but was not able to stop in time to avoid the man.

The force of the accident left a large dent in the pickup.

Emergency responders transported the man to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he later died.

Houston police say Officer C. James was not injured in the crash.

Investigators said he would not face charges after the accident.
