Multi-vehicle crash leaves 1 person dead on Houston's south side

Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that left one person dead on Houston's south side.

Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that left one person dead in South Houston.

According to tow drivers at the scene, a dark Chevy Cobalt with two occupants was stopped in the moving inbound lanes on Interstate 45.

The two people inside the car are believed to have passed out.

Witnesses say another vehicle came along and rear-ended the Chevy.

Soon after, a white car tried to swerve around the accident, but instead rammed into the retaining wall between the inbound lanes and the feeder road.

One person in the white car died from the impact.

Witnesses then say the Chevy Cobalt fled the scene.

One female was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

It is unknown what car she was in.

I-45 inbound was closed down to one lane due to the accident.
