Houston man's charges dropped in fatal hit-and-run case

The Houston Chronicle reports that Houston police dismissed the charges against Matthew Putterman after reviewing video taken at his parents' business that shows his car wasn't damaged 12 hours after the late-night wreck. The 28-year-old had been charged with failure to stop and render aid in the Jan. 8 death of 21-year-old Michael Alexander Hill. Putterman was arrested after Canadian border patrol agents found a small amount of marijuana in his car Jan. 14 as he crossed the border from North Dakota. Court records show he was charged after the agents saw damage to his car and discovered text messages on Putterman's cell phone about being involved in a crash but saying he didn't think the victim died.
