Woman killed, man hurt in train crash in Missouri City

A violent train crash in Missouri City leaves a woman dead and sends a man to a hospital. The lights were working.Authorities say that it appears the entire tragedy could have been avoided."The crossing arms were down. The train had its horn going and they elected to go around arms," said Captain Paul Poulton with the Missouri City Police Department.The woman's husband is believed to be the one who was injured. That is when a train came from the other direction and struck the vehicle. Right now, investigators are determining what exactly happened.They say the man drove a car around the gates at a crossing near Highway 90 and Cravens after seeing one train stopped on the tracks.Investigators say the man driving the car decided to go around the crossing arms.

Police responded to the accident just after noon on Tuesday at Texas Parkway and South Main Street MISSOURI CITY, Texas -- One woman is dead and one man is injured after a train collided with a car in Missouri City on Tuesday afternoon. Authorities say the train then smashed into the passenger side of the car and killed the 65-year-old woman. Officials say the train stopped and was blocking an intersection at which the crossing arms had come down. Police say male driver of the car drove around the crossing arms and into the path of an oncoming train in the opposite direction. Police responded to the accident just after noon on Tuesday at Texas Parkway and South Main Street.
