Students: Loss of Heights HS coach in weekend crash leaves a real void

Counselors were on hand Monday at Heights High School after a beloved coach Adrian Byrd was killed in a wrong way crash[1].

The couple enjoyed a date night away from their two-year-old and three-year-old children. As they drove home from a wedding party, a stranger steered his Ford F-150 truck head-on into the couple’s Mercedes.

Former Lobo killed in Houston crash

Deputies charged the driver in the F-150 -- Gerardo Gonzalez Luna, 51 -- with intoxicated manslaughter and intoxicated assault.     

Man charged in wrong-way fatal Houston crash

Harris County authorities say initial toxicology tests showed Luna had with a blood-alcohol level more than three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent. Open alcohol containers also were found in Luna's truck.   

Man accused in drunken crash that killed Heights High school coach back in court

He appeared before Wallace Wednesday for a status hearing. He is expected to return to court in March. His case has not been set for trial.
