18-wheeler carrying thousands of pounds of onions crashes; part of I-35 shut down

Authorities said the 80,000 pound big rig rear ended a dump truck at a high rate of speed, leading to the spill. The driver of the dump truck was taken to a hospital as a precaution, but they are expected to be okay. The big rig driver was not injured, San Antonio police said.

A huge accident involving an 18-wheeler hauling onions and a dump truck has shut down a portion of a busy San Antonio highway.

The impact caused much of the load of onions to spill onto the highway. Police say the 18 wheeler driver was speeding at the time of the crash.

Driver held for suspicion of DWI after slamming into a utility pole on San Antonio’s Northeast side

He wasn’t hurt, but his car has been totaled and CPS crews had to make some repairs to the pole.

The driver was evaluated at the scene and was brought in for suspicion of DWI.

The driver of the dump truck was taken to an area hospital in stable condition just to be on the safe side, while the driver of the onion truck was assured to be okay after the incident, according to the police.
