Two dead after rafts overturn in Colorado River

Classic Lifeguard Helicopter, which is based in Moab, was contacted directly by Griffith Expeditions and asked to respond to the scene, and the sheriff's department was also notified, the report states.

Two men, one from Utah, drown in raft accidents on Colorado River

The men were in separate rafts that were overwhelmed about 1:30 p.m. Thursday by runoff-swollen rapids in the Funnel Falls area of Westwater Canyon, about 54 miles upriver from Moab.

It was about 1:30 p.m. when a raft carrying six people operated by Sheri Griffith River Expeditions was on the Colorado River and overturned due to rough conditions at Funnel Falls. Moments later, a private raft carrying three people also overturned at the same place. A total of eight people were thrown into the water, with only the rower of the private raft able to remain in the boat. Everyone except Charles McLynch, 50, who was in the commercial raft, and Adam Ericksen, 27, who was in the private raft, managed to get out of the water and back into the boats. Both men were unconscious in the water, and after attempts to revive them failed, they were pronounced dead.
