A three-vehicle collision in Millville on Thursday evening sent one person to the hospital and prompted an investigation into whether one of the drivers was under the influence of alcohol.

The Cache County Sheriff's issued a news statement Friday, saying the driver of a pickup truck traveling eastbound on 200 South in Millville was driving erratically when he crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a passenger vehicle near 140 W. 200 South around 7:30 p.m.

The collision also involved a motorcycle, though police said it's unclear where that vehicle was in relation to the others at the time of the incident.

The operator of the motorcycle was identified as Randy Wirth of Millville. Wirth, 67, is the co-founder and roastmaster for Caffe Ibis Coffee Roasting Company headquartered in Logan.

A spokesman for McKay-Dee Hospital confirmed Friday Wirth is in critical condition.

Peterson released the following details about the crash:

"Investigation and witness statements have revealed that 40-year Alvin Henson old 200 South of Millville was driving a 1993 Dodge Dakota pickup eastbound on 200 South in Millville, with passenger 29-year old Brian Schofield of Logan," writes Peterson.

"Witnesses state Mr. Henson was driving very erratically and lost control of his vehicle which crossed into the westbound lane striking a 1999 Cadillac DeVille being driven by 51-year old Clay Wilker of Millville who was driving the opposite direction of Henson.

Somehow, a 1978 Suzuki motorcycle driven by 67-year old Randolph Wirth of Millville was also struck in the accident. None of the witnesses or any of the drivers saw the motorcycle and it is still unclear where the motorcycle was in relation to the other vehicles."

He added, "The driver of the motorcycle, Randolph Wirth, was significantly injured in the accident. He was transported to Logan Regional Hospital by ambulance, and then transported by Life Flight helicopter to McKay-Dee Hospital."

Henson and Schofield were transported to Logan Regional Hospital with minor injuries. Clay Wilker and his juvenile passenger were not injured in the accident.

Peterson said deputies who arrived on scene suspected alcohol use by Alvin Henson and Brian Schofield and said the case is being investigated as a DUI incident.

Henson was released from the hospital and later booked into the Cache County Jail on charges including DUI - a 2nd degree felony; driving on alcohol restriction - a class-B misdemeanor; and failure to install an interlock device - also a class-B misdemeanor.

The Sheriff’s office says it’s in consultation with the Cache County Attorney's Office and the incident is still under investigation. Future or amended charges may be forthcoming for Henson.
