Public safety dispatchers say a 911 call came in from the SME Steel Contractors site, 5801 Wells Park Road (9600 South), at 6:37 a.m. West Jordan police Officer Scott List said the man had been working underneath a 40-by-10-foot structural steel span, and he was in the process of cutting it when half of the structure suddenly broke loose, crushing his neck and head.

His identity has been disclosed as Alfonso David-Grajeda. Authorities with West Jordan Police said a 911 call came in at about 6:35 a.m. from SME Steel Contractors. Grajeda was working under a large 40-by-10 foot steel tube when it fell on him, crushing his head and neck.
