Traffic is currently being diverted at East Washington Street and Hollywood Avenue and at East Washington Street and John F. Kennedy Middle School. This portion of the roadway is expected to be closed until after 8 a.m. as the investigation continues.
Driver runs away after crashing head-on into school bus in Suffolk(link is external)
Emergency Communications received the call at 6:41 a.m. The caller reported a head-on collision involving the bus and a 4-door Nissan, gray in color. The driver of the Nissan fled on foot immediately following the accident, police say.
After hitting a school bus in Suffolk, Virginia Thursday morning, the driver of a gray Nissan, identified as Travis Devone Copeland, 30, fled the scene on foot. The incident occured at the 2200 block of East Washington Street around 6:41 a.m. on October 16, 2014. No students were injured, however the female bus driver was taken to the Sentara Obici hospital to treat injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
