One Dead, One Injured in Crash on Franconia Springfield Parkway

Fairfax County police said one person was killed in a crash along the Franconia Springfield Parkway late Friday night. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK. The identities of the victims have not been released. Police said the accident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. in the westbound lanes near the Backlick Road exit. Police did not release a cause of the accident.

18-year-old dead after fatal crash in Fairfax County

Police say an initial investigation determined that 18-year-old Laween A. Akrawi of Fairfax Station was driving on the Franconia Springfield Parkway when he lost control of his BMW 3-Series and traveled off the right side of the roadway, striking multiple trees. Police say Akrawi died at the scene.
