Scott A. Brenneman, Nate Lachendro, Nathan W. Precup, and David W. Newton die when plane crashes into field near Harvey Airfield and U.S. 2 in Snohomish, Washington

Two people are confirmed dead Friday after a plane crashed and caught fire in Snohomish County near Harvey Field, according to Don Waller with the Snohomish County Fire District 4.

The first people at the scene tried to put the fire out using handheld fire extinguishers, but were unsuccessful due to the “large volume of fire,” the fire district said.

Since around noon, US 2 has been closed between 88th Street Southeast and 100th Street Southeast/Westwick Road in Snohomish County.

The FAA's website says the aircraft was owned by Copper Mountain Aviation of Alaska. The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are investigating.

Officials initially said there were two fatalities, but upon further investigation of the wreckage found that two more people had died inside the plane, FOX13 Seattle reported.

Raisbeck Engineering was leasing the Cessna Grand Caravan 208B EX to collect “baseline aircraft performance data,” according to a statement from the company’s president, Hal Chrisman.
