1 killed, 3 injured as police chase ends in violent crash

The chase started Monday at about 6 p.m. when a King County Sheriff's deputy working in Covington spotted a vehicle wanted in connection with an earlier theft at a local store, according to the sheriff's office.  The deputy hit his lights, but the suspect sped away, according to Jason Stanley with the King County Sheriff's office. The brief car chase reached speeds of 80 to 90 miles per hour before ending near SE 328th Street and Auburn-Black Diamond Road when the suspect crashed into a pickup truck.

“A pretty minimal crime,” King County sheriff’s detective Jason Stanley said, and that led to one death and three serious injuries.  “It’s a terribly tragic incident.”

The plates on the suspect’s car were stolen, the sheriff’s office said.

The suspect was killed in the crash, and two passengers in the car were injured. A passenger in the pickup truck was also hurt. The three survivors of the crash were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, authorities said.
