Kirkland man hospitalized after car struck by metal cylinder near Levenworth

A 19-year-old Kirkland man was taken to a local hospital after a metal cylinder came off a flatbed truck and crashed through the windshield of his car in eastern Washington on Friday.

The man was heading south on SR-97 about 13 miles outside of Leavenworth when a metal cylinder broke free from a flatbed truck hauling four hydraulic lift arms used for garbage trucks.

The WSP report says a white 2000 Chevrolet flatbed truck and a black 2007 Honda Civic were both southbound on State Route 97 when a metal cylinder broke loose from the flatbed and went airborne, smashing into the right front of the Honda and then through the driver side windshield hitting the Honda's steering wheel.
