A man is dead after being hit by a passenger train in southern Washington.

An Amtrak passenger train traveling from Portland to Seattle hit and killed a man Sunday night. The man was hit about 9:30 p.m. on the tracks at Second Street Northeast near the Puyallup train station. The Cascades train with passengers on board remained right where it stopped as investigators interviewed the crew. The tracks were also shut down during the investigation, affecting several other trains. The victim, who is described as in his 20s or 30s, was alone. Investigators said no one saw what happened. Pedestrian collisions with trains are uncommon, but do occur regularly along the industrial waterfronts and many train tracks of Western Washington.
